WHICH WINE GLASS ?
Wine from good glasses tastes better. Only: Which one needs which wine? Do you really need six glasses for white wine and as many for red? Or is one enough for each variety?
No, you don't need a special glass for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Riesling or Rioja.
We'd rather keep it short:
one glass for red wine, one for
white and one champagne glass, done. These should be of good quality.
According to many experts, a good glass should...
…be big – but not huge. In it, wines smell
more intensely and come into their own.
…be simple. The platform deserves the wine, not the
glass.
…have a bulbous shape. You have to be able to swirl wine in it
to release the aromas. The calyx should be at least a third
broader at the bottom than at the top.
…have a long stem. The stem keeps finger warmth
away from the wine.
…Be dishwasher safe. Many would never put their best wine glasses
in the dishwasher. Nevertheless: Good glasses have to withstand it.
